Hollie Steel Barnfield Theatre, Exeter BRITAIN'S Got Talent finalist Hollie Steel will be taking to the stage at Exeter's Barnfield Theatre tomorrow night.

The 11-year-old, who came sixth in last year's competition, will be performing a show entitled Hollie Steel and Friends. It will feature classic songs from Hollie's debut album, including Nessun Dorma, Ave Maria, songs from The Phantom Of the Opera, The Sound of Music and, of course, I Could Have Danced All Night from My Fair Lady.

Taking steps back in time

11:21, 2010-Jul-11 .. 0 comments .. Link

Picture: Michelle Adamson THESE former ballroom champions celebrated a golden era of dance worth getting in a spin about.

The Cleethorpes Ballroom Dancing Formation Team, who collected a run of awards in the 1950s and 1960s, held their annual reunion in Cleethorpes Golf Club yesterday.

In their heyday, the group would dance in tightly co-ordinated couples; their five-minute routines jumping between styles such as the foxtrot, tango, quickstep and Charleston.

However, these days their meetings are a more sedate affair.

Roy Johnson, 77, said: "We formed out of the Stevenson's School of Dance, formed by Jimmy Stevenson - who was like a second father to us over the years.

"It was about 1950 and formation dancing was something which was becoming very popular at the time, so at the end of the lessons anyone interested in that kind of dancing would stay behind.

"We didn't do much for about five years, but then we started to win competitions."

And they started to win big. They went to the Blackpool Winter Gardens and competed as an eight-couple team - and split into a four- couple team. The four-couple team were eight-times British Champions from 1955 to 1958 and 1960 to 1963.

Meanwhile, as an eight-couple team, they were British Champions in 1956, and 1958 to 1963.

They took Bertolucci second place in 1957 and 1964 and also competed in the European Championship in 1961.

Roy said: "We were only young though at the time - about 16 or 17- and really didn't realise what we had achieved. We were often on the television."

DG

Christine Mortlock, 69, took over Stevenson's School of Dance from her father, Jimmy. She said: "It's lovely seeing everybody and talking about what we achieved.

"I remember watching a programme called Dancing Through The Ages not long ago and there we were on the television."

Eddie Norman, 74, of Clee Road, Cleethorpes, is one of the founding members. Eddie still dances as part of the Silhouettes theatre group.

He said: "We all got to know each other so well from dancing together. There was a real elation to dancing in a team and winning the awards we did."

Speedemissions Automotive Survey Shows Drivers Feel Safe in Their Vehicles

11:03, 2010-Jul-11 .. 0 comments .. Link

New CARbonga © iPhone App Underscores That Trust May Be Misguided

ATLANTA -- Despite the slew of automotive recalls over the past year, a new survey conducted by Speedemissions, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: SPMI), based in Atlanta, indicates that 79% of the more than 1,300 people surveyed feel as safe or safer in their vehicles than they did a year ago. However, a new iPhone application that diagnoses an automobile’s computers systems emphasizes that consumers may not be as knowledgeable about their automobiles as they think.

CARbonga is the first iPhone app (also runs on the iPod touch and iPad) to address both broader vehicle Safety Systems, such as its anti-lock brakes, air bags, safety-restraint systems and tire pressure monitoring systems as well as On Board Diagnostic (OBD) codes for vehicle emissions and other engine problems. (Other iPhone apps only read OBD codes, not safety codes.) Drivers with a 1996 or newer vehicle can see beyond the vague “Check Engine???light to pinpoint existing and pending problems with their vehicle’s engine, transmission, safety systems, body, chassis, and more—perhaps even when warning lights do not indicate a problem.

Wholesale Chole Handbags

“Our survey shows that 80% of consumers know something could be amiss with their vehicles even though the warning lights do not indicate a problem. Still, 81% said they trust their automobile manufacturer and/or their auto’s electronic system to warn them of problems. That’s a potentially dangerous gamble,???said Rich Parlontieri, President and CEO of Speedemissions, Inc. and Founder of CARbonga.

From April 2008 to April 2009, over 6,300 Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) were issued to dealers by automobile manufacturers. A key point, given that 38% of car owners surveyed did not know dealers and automobile repair shops routinely received these TSBs. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Association (NHTSA), Replica Chopard Watches 16.4 million vehicles were recalled in 2009, an increase of 56% over the previous year.

CARbonga (which is powered by GoPoint Technology, Inc.) makes it easy for drivers to gauge the condition of their vehicles by themselves. Using the same technology previously accessible only by car mechanics and dealerships, CARbonga allows drivers to connect to their On Board Diagnostic port with an iPhone and a goLINK cable and check over 2,000 vehicle fault codes. The system then translates those codes and issues an immediate reading of any current or pending mechanical issues that may be occurring in the vehicle, without the time and expense of visiting a mechanic.

CARbonga is also great for checking a used car’s on-board history before buying, alerting buyers of stored previous alerts, potentially advising if the airbag had deployed or if the transmission was problematic.

“CARbonga arms drivers almost anywhere in the world with the most important link in modern car repair: the On Board Diagnostics,???says Parlontieri. “Because of the economy, more people are taking car maintenance into their own hands. After so many years in the vehicle inspection business and with our company performing over 150,000 safety inspections every year, we knew it was the right time to bring CARbonga to market.???

CARbonga’s Version I app includes Safety Check, Driving Green, Browse Music and is available for purchase through the iTunes App Store on any iPhone for just $4.99. The goLINK cable, which also charges the iPhone battery, is available at Amazon.com or eBay.com. Version II of CARbonga will allow car owners to receive notices from the vehicle manufacturer about possible warranty work and notice of issued Technical Service Bulletins through their iPhone.

As you can use the CARbonga for an unlimited number of readings, the savings is immeasurable. With more than 42,000 Americans being killed in automobile accidents each year, car safety is a priority for everyone.

Spanish Embassy Our country is safe for Israelis despite Madrid

11:00, 2010-Jul-11 .. 0 comments .. Link

There is no reason for Israelis to avoid traveling to Spain, a staffer at the Spanish Embassy in Tel Aviv said on Wednesday, two days after an Israeli businessmen suffered light wounds to his head when he and Israeli colleagues were attacked by pro-Palestinian activists in Madrid.

The source referred to the incident as Fen di Bags unusual and not indicative of a worsening atmosphere toward Israelis or Jews in Spain.

Monday's attack took place outside a conference at the Autonomous University of Madrid that was initiated by the Spain- Israel Chamber of Commerce. The businessman was injured while he was fleeing in a police car that was hit by a volley of rocks.

During the conference, hundreds of anti-Israel protesters stormed the hall before panel discussions began. The location of the conference had been changed following the raid on the Free Gaza flotilla last Monday, but protesters found the new venue and descended on the hall chanting anti-Israel slogans. E

Police rushed to the scene and began to escort the Israelis away, while they came under a hail of stones, paint and assorted other objects.

Madrid police said they have not made any arrests, but that they believe that most of the rioters were Muslim.

On Wednesday, the Counter-Terrorism Bureau of the National Security Council said there was no travel warning whatsoever for Spain.

The attack came after organizers of a gay pride parade scheduled for this week in Madrid asked Israelis not to attend due to security issues.

The request nixed a planned visit by a contingent from Israel's Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender Association and the Foreign Ministry, which were to share a float in the parade.

In addition, organizers on Wednesday canceled a concert at which transgender Israeli singer Dana International was set to perform.

A concert the 1998 Eurovision replica clothing contest winner had scheduled for later in June in the Turkish city of Antalya was also canceled.
